Situating the case study
This case study is from the course ‘nursing’ at Arteveldehogeschool (higher education). In the course ‘nursing diagnosis and intervention 1’ students get an introduction to various nursing procedures eg. manutention techniques (= raising and lifting of patients). Prior, students were introduced to the various operations through a written course but this proved very difficult for students. Therefore the practical sessions often remained limited to the demonstration of the techniques without students given the opportunity to apply these techniques in diverse ways.
